what is the Tzolk'in?
sacred time, ancient archetypes
Learn about the Sacred Tzolk'in Maya Calendar, who the Day Gods are, and how you can come into alignment with the energy of each day.
what are the days?
every day is a god
It's like a Maya Farmer's Almanac. But more.
Every day is a god.
The personality of that god rules the energy of the day.
According to Mayan cosmovision, a spirit world exists alongside the material world. Twenty powerful beings called "nawales" from the spirit world exert a powerful influence on people and events in this material world. Called "Lords of the Day", the nawales are archetypes, or personalities. Each one a part of the whole which makes up the oneness, or all that is the creator of the Universe and all that is in both the seen and the un-seen worlds. Each of these 20 nawales or day gods, IS a day. In other words, the days are alive. They are personalities or "gods" if you will. And so, each nawal determines the energy of its day, –- its potential, the sort of things that work best on that date. And when a person is born on any particular day, they take on the characteristics or Archetype of that nawal/that day.
The Tzolk'in Calendar is the sacred calendar of the Maya that enlightens to us the cycle of the archetypes. With 20 different day gods, there are of course 20 different days. The Tzolk'in is the "count of days," and it records or monitors the parade of the day gods as they come one after another on a wheel that has been turning since the beginning.
The Tzolk'in maps out those days, the succession of the Lords of the Days. It is the calendar takes into account the personality of each Day Lord and uses it to predict or define what the energy of each day will be like. It shows us what each day's energy is beneficial for and also warms us of what to watch out for, a bit like the Farmer's Almanac. Is today good for planting, harvesting, magic, travel, taking care of your home, beginning something new, or something else entirely? Or is it a day when its best to watch your words carefully or be careful of avoiding mistakes?
This helpful and guiding information is given to us through the ancient wisdom of the Sacred Calendar.
There are 20 days in the sacred Tzolk'in Calendar that are repeated 13 times each giving the calendar a total of 260 days. Each of the 20 Nawales (Days represented by a Lord) is preceded by a number from 1 to 13, which tells the intensity of the Nawal’s energy. For example: 2 Kawak has quiet energy, 8 Kawak is balanced, and 13 Kawak is almost too strong and a bit crazy. The 13 days make up a month called a "trecena" and each month has an over-riding energy too! Wow, it is a lot to take in! But, no worries because below you will find the basics for each of the twenty days so you can get a general idea of what each Nawal's power is all about, but to discover the specific energy for every day, you can purchase the Sacred Tzolkin Daily Planner. The Planner combines the power of the Day Lord of today with the intensity (number or tone) of today and the overall type of energy in this trecena (13 day month) to give you an in-depth description of how you can work with the specific energy of this day. (How cool is that!)
everything is alive!
Yes, everything is alive. Writing something down brings it to life. Think of the word "spelling" and its connection to magic! Speaking the name of something also brings it to life. The curly swirls you see at the bottom of all the glyphs tell us that they are breathing. These are breath curls! Indeed, the days are gods. They are alive and active and here to support you as you walk your path toward re-connection and wholeness!

heartfelt testimony
" it's changed my life entirely"
For a little over a year I've been learning to walk in the path of the Maya. In this world we are bound by time and space. That time and space has laws and patterns and cycles. If you were to have a road map to that journey, would you use it?
I have been and it's changed my life entirely. If you match your mind and spirit to the energies that already exist instead of trying to force and bend and manipulate... just step into it and let the river carry you to the sea. For example, on days meant for travel, when I travel it's always the most enjoyable smooth experience. If I travel on days not meant for it, the flights are delayed and every step of the way it's hurdles. On days meant for home and garden that's what I do and my plants and home flourish.
I feel more secure and held by the universe.
I've eased into my body's natural energy cycles and become more in tune with my body than ever before. I chose to move here over all other places in the world and I had no idea why. I did know I wanted and needed to know more about the ways of the Mayan because it has always rang true to me even from what little I knew. I had no idea it would open such doors for me. It's more than reading and research its walking the path that's meant for you. It's listening to the language of the universe that rings true for you. For many of us souls here this is the path, and I hope with all my love that you find yours as well
